Principal Consultant/Senior Project Manager - Marine and Offshore
Position Overview
Open for UK (Remote/Part-time) and Portugal (Full-Time).
As Principal Consultant/Senior Project Manager, he will oversee marine biodiversity and offshore wind energy projects, ensuring the timely delivery of reports, products, and technical proposals. While the primary focus will be on offshore bird and wind-power projects, there will also be potential involvement in other seabird and marine life studies, monitoring, and restoration projects. He will collaborate closely with our biodiversity team, business development, and technological teams, engaging with clients, regulators, and other relevant partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting Directly report to the Director of the Biodiversity Department.
Project Management Define and management of operational planning, resource allocation and distribution of external and internal tasks and manage overall project schedules, ensuring adequate resources, manage and solve the main problems, and mitigating risks.
Technical and Budgetary Oversight Manage technical and budgetary aspects of projects, identifying and solving key issues.
Reporting and Documentation Produce national and international technical reports, including studies and monitoring, and maintain high standards of quality of the technical and scientific work.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement Engage with clients at all project phases, disclose project information to interested parties, and participate in missions to project areas.
Business Development Participate in bid and proposal preparation with the business development department.
Continuous Improvement List and analyse the lessons learned in each project, contribute to the effectiveness of the management system, ensuring operationalisation, process control, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in ecological or environmental sciences, PhD degree is preferred.
- More than 10 years of relevant experience in leading marine biodiversity projects, tender
and grant applications, consultancy, business strategy and financial planning, as well as
building strategic client relationships in the Offshore and Marine sector. Proven track
record in collaborating with industry and academic colleagues worldwide to scope and deliver
projects.
- Experience in directing and having overall responsibility for several projects at any
time, leading a team of consultants and project managers to deliver these on time and within
budget, maintaining high quality and client satisfaction. Line management experience,
providing mentorship for interns and students, and input to research and publications.
- Proficient in reviewing proposals, quotes, and reports for quality and accuracy,
implementing ISO practices (ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001), and contributing to the continual
improvement of policies and procedures. Strong problem-solving, time management,
prioritisation, and effective delegation and supervision of progress within the wider
team.
- Considerable marine science research and reporting experience, interfacing with
consultants, biodiversity experts, and data scientists which will be performing advanced
statistical modelling, species distribution modelling, distance sampling, population
viability analysis, and acoustic propagation modelling. Skilled in the preparation and
analysis of data from visual, video, and acoustic surveys and environmental data from
satellites and models. Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to
write concise reports in English. Proficient in English, and independent in French or
Spanish.
Desirable skills Experience with the setup, deployment, operation, and recovery of offshore survey equipment, as well as subsequent download and analysis of data, and taxonomic analysis. Experience in undertaking critical habitat assessment and biodiversity offsetting assessments and plans. Work experience in Asia, Africa and/or Latin America.
